Last month, the world’s richest and most influential people gathered for the annual World Economic Forum at the Swiss ski resort Davos. Every year, there are plenty of speeches and high-minded rhetoric on issues such as climate change and inequality. But the forum also serves as a venue for an international elite to spend some quality time together. Davos is one of a number of such invitation-only events where many of the most powerful people in the world get together. Presidents and Prime Ministers hobnob with CEO’s, investors and speculators. It is an opportunity to expand and solidify the elite networks that rule the world.
The elite of Fine Gael were also invited. Due to the election, this year’s invitees, Leo Varadkar, Simon Coveney and Pascal Donohoe, had to reject the chance to spend time with the bigwigs of global capitalism…….
